Porcelain veneers play a large part in "smile makeover" procedures as they can be used to change the length, shade and texture of the teeth without removing much tooth structure.
Porcelain veneers are essentially porcelain laminates, wafer-thin shells of porcelain bonded onto the front side of the teeth. As the amount of tooth structure needed to be removed is considerably less than that of the conventional crowns, porcelain veneers are excellent solutions to correct problems of stained, discoloured, chipped and slightly crooked teeth.
However, if the tooth is already badly broken down or heavily restored with large filling, they may not be enough tooth structure (enamel) for the porcelain to bond to.
