Itinerary Overview

Day One: Explore the sights of Hobart including Salamanca Place, Battery Point and the waterfront docks. Head for the mountains and discover Mt Field, Tasmania's first and oldest National Park. Take a walk to Russell Falls, admire Tall Trees and alpine Lake Dobson. Finish the day at Tarraleah, its aboriginal meaning is "Forrester Kangaroo".

Day Two: Delve further into the wilderness with a visit to Lake St Clair, which at a depth of 200m, is Australia's deepest freshwater lake. Continue to Tasmania's west coast making several stops along the way to stretch the legs on some great short walks including Donaghy's Lookout, Franklin River and Nelson Falls. Finish the day in Strahan at the very edge of the west coast. Strahan once a quiet fishing village plays an important role in the history of the evolution of the worlds' first Greens Party. Day Three: One of the most powerful and meaningful experiences on the west coast is the Gordon River Cruise (optional). Or choose an equally stunning activity, the West Coast Wilderness Railway (optional). King River Jet boat, henty dunes quad biking, scenic flight are other great options from Strahan. Travel this afternoon to Cradle Mountain via the towns of Rosebery and Tullah. Visit a Wildlife Sanctuary to view the Tasmanian Devil and learn more about this unique creature. Day Four: Join a guided walk or free walk on one of the many trails on and around Cradle Mountain and Dove and Crater Lakes. The mountain at 1545m high, is one of the favourite features in the park. Icy streams cascade down the mountainsides, and ancient pines are reflected in the still glacial lakes. Day Five: Start today with a city sights snapshot of Tasmania's second city and Australia's third oldest, Launceston, with its beautifully maintained architecture. Head to a Lavender Farm then continue the journey east for a walk on the pristine white beaches and orange lichen covered rocks of the Bay of Fires. Continue down the coastal road hugging the stunning coastline to Bicheno. Day Six: Head further south to Freycinet National Park and join a guided walk to Wineglass Bay, voted one of the world's top 10 beaches. There are other free walking choices and a visit to Cape Tourville. At dusk take a guided tour for a closer look at the life of the Little Penguins in this area. (optional) Day Seven: On the stunning Tasman Peninsula, explore one of Tasmania's tourist hotspots, the Port Arthur Historic Site. Learn about the life of a convict in a place once considered "Hell On Earth". Take the opportunity to view the site as the convicts would have from aboard a cruise boat on the harbour, then unwind on the return to Hobart via Richmond.
